Over on Twitter, Blocktober celebrates the creativity of video game designers and encourages the sharing of “blockmesh” layouts during October.
Blockout inspired by DOOM
Role : Technical Game/Level designer
Engine : Unreal Engine 4
I recreated a part of a level from Doom eternal trailer in UE4 with implementation of some of the simple mechanics like double jump, slide, wall jump, jump pad and weapon hook.
Step of work
This was a pretty fun challenge, I really enjoyed it.
The Steps of work are shown below. I hope you like it.

I recreated a part of a level from Doom eternal trailer in UE4 with implementation of some of the simple mechanics like double jump, slide, wall jump, jump pad and weapon hook.
Step of work
- I watched the trailer more and more and drew every bit of the map, then draw a mental map (top-down sketch) to see how the game flow goes.
- After the paper design, I started a block out in UE4
- The process of making level, help me to improve my level design skills
- After making the block mesh, I added first person controller into the map and start making gameplay with the blueprint script.
- I implemented some of the simple mechanics to test the map in the engine like jump, double jump, dash, wall jump, jump pad and weapon hook.
- After a few iterations on test and adjusting the map, I found a correct scale and size of the map. (It was made based on the trailer, and it was a little bit challenging to find the right scale)
This was a pretty fun challenge, I really enjoyed it.
